Best Blogs of the Week

Best of Blogs

This week has two blog posts and an excellent tweet.  Both blog posts use research (one in-house, the other from AARP) to present a single topic effectively.

  1. Russell – The company continues to use visuals in manners way ahead of other managers.  With good tagging and organization, they will soon have an arsenal of visuals to supplement and support many different discussions with different target audiences.  In this post, Russell shares topics most discussed by financial professionals during Q2.
  2. Vanguard – This post explains how most 401(k) participants pay attention only to explicit fees and how the DOL is changing regulations to help participants better understand costs.
  3. BlackRock – New to twitter (outside of iShares), the tweet below resonates with many financial advisors.  In our discussions with FAs, many talk about QE2 and how they describe the topic to clients.

Best Blogs of the Week

Last week’s best blogs include a first-timer, The Hartford.

  1. American Century – Wondering just how to further analyze TIPS beyond the recent negative news coverage?  I was and this long-format post provided a clear examination of the current situation and a reasonable evaluation method.  I could see many FAs re-purposing sections of this post.
  2. Russell – This is  a clear articulation for advisors evaluating client portfolio tools.
  3. The Hartford – Not FA related at all, but helpful common sense nonetheless.  As Memorial Day kicked off “driving season,” they remind drivers on a way to be safe and thrify: tire pressure.

Best Blogs of the Week

This week’s best blogs includes one slightly older post.  It just didn’t make the cut last week but still remained interesting.

  1. Virtus – Great blog title – Six Charts that Matter – who doesn’t have time for six charts?  Further who’s not curious to see if you agree/disagree with Joe here.
  2. Franklin Templeton – This post provides a brief and digestible synopsis of Abu Dhabi; way better than wikipedia.
  3. Vanguard – While it seems strange to a 529 dayh (is April 1st, “401k day”) last week, this is a great post on how and why 529 accounts matter.

More high-quality education that’s relevant for both direct investors and FAs advising clients on tenets of good long-term investing.

  1. Vanguard – Straightforward (re-)education on the impact of consistent periodic investing.
  2. BlackRock – Answering the question many clients ask – why not just buy silver instead of gold; it’s cheaper? – about the differences between gold and silver investing and previously.
  3. American Century – We appreciate the Q&A format and this post explains debt ceiling and other timely topics clearly.
