Best Blogs of the Week – THE SINGLE BEST BLOG

Best Blogs of the Week – THE SINGLE BEST BLOG

We recommended 74 blogs on in 2011. Is there one that was way above and beyond the rest? No.

One did stick out as a template for any firm considering a blog or improving their blog.

The single best blog of the year came from Russell. The post, titled “Is the U.S. vaccinated against Japanese-style economic stagnation?”, uses three effective blog tools.

Tool #1 – Question and Answer – Similar to great musical harmony, the question and answer technique involves additional people (in this case, the reader) into the song, or conversation. Russell uses Q&A right away in the title. And as readers, we’re all susceptible to a question we have pondered or think we should have.

Tool #2 – Titles – The reader knows precisely what this blog will be about. Only a small percentage of readers may be interested in fact, all visitors are thankful. This is always better than a vague title or something overly clever. In those cases a larger percentage of visitors may visit, but many will leave annoyed.

Tool #3 – Short Length – The entire post isn’t very long and the author uses sections to naturally break up the text. A few of the section breaks use questions (see tool #1).

Overall, this post is a fantastic example of effective blog writing, circa 2011, in asset management.

Congratulations to the team at Russell. A blog well done.
